The Cobra Trooper was released in the Spring of 2011 as part of the fifth wave--which arrived at retail after wave six--of figures in the Pursuit of Cobra line. The Pursuit of Cobra line features environment-themed missions in which the G.I. Joe team pursues Cobra operatives to the ends of the earth. As part of the City Strike mission theme, the G.I. Joe team stealthily infiltrates a Cobra warehouse, in an urban center, housing some of Destro's newest weaponry.
Before Vipers, B.A.T.S. and Crimson Guards there were Cobra Troopers. Often clumsily portrayed in the animated series and not the most menacing of Cobra's paramilitary forces, Cobra Troopers were plentiful and always in the thick of battle; even if the results weren't typically in their favor. Their ability to pilot a Trouble Bubble, drive a Stinger or skipper a Water Moccasin makes Cobra Troopers versatile soldiers, thus a favorite figure among collectors to "army build."

Did You Know? The first Cobra Trooper--released in 1982 as part of the A Real American Hero line--was code named The Enemy, but classified as Cobra. Since the Cobra figure's code name, The Enemy, was also shared with the Cobra Officer, their respective military specialties were used to distinguish the two figures. Eventually, as Cobra became the all-encompassing term used to define the entire terror network, the Cobra figure evolved to be referred to--and later named--as the Cobra Trooper.

I really love reading thouse trivia that you put in with these reviews.
Regarding this figure, I really much like the design of the Resolute Cobra troopers than the ARAH. At least with the resolute they come with a vest plus they carry a much modern sub machine gun. These troopers looks very much out dated even they put in a kneepads.
Though we agree that aesthetically the Resolute Cobra Trooper has a more modern look, I think this was purposely done as a throw-back for collectors because it's such a recognizable character as well as an army builder--two things the G.I. Joe line really needed in order to make sales and show retailers it's still relevant.
I did put a Cobra Shock Trooper vest on the Cobra Trooper and equipped it with the Shock Troopers assault rifle and it looked really good. Hopefully this will be a variation we'll see sometime in the future as a vehicle driver or otherwise.
I hope you could put a link to your photo of that Shock Trooper. In my opinion the designers should still have gone with the resolute vest since the POC line is not about having the ARAH look but updating it to have a more modern look. I love the shoes though.
