Archive: Cobra Shock Trooper - Elite Combat Troper (City Strike)

July 13, 2011

The Cobra Shock Trooper was released in the fourth quarter of 2010 as part of the third wave of figures in the Pursuit of Cobra line. The Pursuit of Cobra line features environment-themed missions in which the G.I. Joe team pursues Cobra operatives to the ends of the earth. As part of the City Strike mission theme, the G.I. Joe team stealthily infiltrates a Cobra warehouse, in an urban center, housing some of Destro's newest weaponry.

Both the accessories and character I.D. card biography suggest the Shock Trooper is, in reality, a SWAT trooper. Shock troopers are military assault troops that specialize in operational mobility and often lead attacks on enemy defenses, while SWAT troopers are paramilitary troops that perform tactical, high-risk operations. SWAT troopers are typically armed with equipment capable of breaching barricades and subduing enemies, such as sledgehammers, shields and electroshock weapons; all gear included with the Shock Trooper.

This figure as is, is a great figure. The problem is when you put this figure in the lore it has the same function as the Alley vipers. Plus SWAT are more of a protecting kind of guys and Cobras are more of a terrorist kind of people. The Alley viper is more effective as they are more of a crowed control unit.

I think this with out the cobra insignia would make a great Shockwave.

You can't criticize the intent, which was to make it an all around trooper to replace the Cobra Trooper, while giving it a modern weapons upgrade. The fact that it was incorporated into the City Strike theme and encroaches on the Alley Viper's turf is where it confuses people, although it shouldn't because there has always been a lot of overlap with Cobra Troopers and Vipers. The selling points on this figure are the accessories, which are phenomenal, and it would be difficult to imagine this figure without the shield or mask.

Your suggestion on the Shock Trooper as a base for Shockwave is a great one. We posted a twitpic of it with Night Fox's cap: http://twitpic.com/5q0u79

Hi. This figures is good. And there have a different kind of jobs to difference of Alley Vipers.
My favorite Alley Viper is 94 bversion that have Orange Cobra Shield.
About Cobra Schock Trooper I read that are soldiers of Destro same Iron Grenadier's and Annhilator's.
Cobra Schock Trooper luxe a Cobra Police.
Alley Viper's are Cobra Urban Assault Trooper.
Best Regards

Actually, these are intended to be a modern interpretation of the Cobra Trooper, who in an urban battle setting would use more police/riot type of equipment.
