Joe: Retaliation, coupled with its star-studded cast gives the brand global exposure and some much needed excitement. We spoke with Hasbro’s marketing team about their 2013 plans for G.I. Joe and discussed what they envisioned for the brand moving forward.

Repeater, Hit and Run, and Spearhead with Max of the Night Force team are the final holdouts on the G.I. Joe side. Interestingly, the Collectors' Club's preview page for the Nocturnal Fire set has space for only two more figure reveals, making us wonder if someone on the Joe team didn't make the cut? The Nocturnal Fire set is exclusive to G.I. JoeCon 2013 and includes 15 figures, of which 10 are unique. G.I. JoeCon 2013 runs April 4 - April 7 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis.

It's also worth noting that the brochure hints that this year's souvenir figures will include some type of glow-in-the-dark feature. G.I. If you didn't subscribe to the G.I. Joe Collectors' Figures Subscription Service (FSS) and were waiting for the club to offer figures individually, you're in luck (sort of). Deadline Looms for G.I. Joe Collectors' Club Subscription Service
The deadline to subscribe to the G.I. Joe Collectors' Club's Figures Subscription Service--midnight Central time September 4--is quickly approaching. If you were planning on "subbing-up" you'd better act quickly. While some figures may be made available at the club store for $32, only a subscription guarantees all 12 figures, plus the subscription-only thirteenth figure. It's also worth noting that according to the club "the deadline to sign-up for our Figure Subscription Service (FSS 1.0) is tonight" with the reference to FSS 1.0 and what we assume to be a hint (intentional or not) at additional subscription services in the future.

Archive: Kim Arashikage (Unmasked) - Ninja / Intelligence
Kim "Jinx" Arashikage was released in the summer of 2012 as a convention exclusive at San Diego Comic-Con. Two versions of Jinx were produced: a primary deco version matching the classic red color style of the original 1987 figure and a variant version wearing a white shinobi shozoko. The variant features the unmasked portrait of actress Elodie Yung, who portrays the character in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Both figures were available at the Hasbro Toy Shop booth (limited to three for the primary version and one for the variant, per attendee badge) at Comic-Con and later online at HasbroToyShop.com, in limited quantities.
Many of us are familiar with the red deco'ed version of Jinx and consider it the character's de facto look. If you're among that crowd, you'll be surprised to learn that Jinx debuted in Marvel's G.I. Joe A Real American Hero comics sporting a white shinobi shozoku with no mask and a long flowing ponytail. This first appearance makes the use of G.I. Joe: Retaliation actress Elodie Yung's portrait ideal, but a far cry from the red-clad, shaggy haired appearance we've become accustomed to, due in part to G.I. Joe: The Movie.
Collectors' Club Store Take Two
Were your glued to your computer on Friday obsessively refreshing your browser in hopes of getting your hands on a Footloose figure from the G.I. Joe Collectors' Club store that didn't go live, as promised? Yeah, us too. In an e-mail to members late Sunday night, club president Brian Savage stated that the club has corrected the issue that postponed Friday's store opening and they're set to open at noon Central Time, today. Again, members can purchase a loose, carded or signed carded (by voice actor Will Ryan) Footloose figure all of which are limit one per member account. Limits are strictly enforced, with a 25 percent administration fee being added to any order attempting to select more than one of each item so be careful; i.e., don't be greedy. In case you need a reminder, we created a calendar event to help you remember.

An e-mail from club president Brian Savage confirms the opening, today, at about noon Central Time. The first item up for grabs will be Footloose; in several flavors. Members can purchase a loose, carded or signed carded (by voice actor Will Ryan) Footloose figure all of which are limit one per member account. Jinx's name embodies collector sentiment when it comes to the frustration felt in acquiring convention exclusive items from Hasbro. Many collectors feel jinxed because if you can't attend a convention or aren't incessantly checking Hasbro Top Shop after the con ends (which only has limited quantities that usually sell out within minutes), you're stuck paying aftermarket prices that are double or triple the retail cost.
Comic-Con 2012: Hasbro Booth Dioramas Video
Once again, we were amazed by the dioramas on display at the Hasbro booth at San Diego Comic-Con, this year. The dios were, by far, some of the most impressive toy-related displays at the show and awed many passers-by. Now, if only we had the space to build our own mountain-side ninja battle...
Comic-Con 2012: Hasbro Booth Video
While they didn't make any new reveals for a second consecutive year at Comic-Con, Hasbro had a strong G.I. Joe presence at the show. Shelves were packed with Joe figures, clothing, dioramas and there wave even a prop Arashikage motorcycle at the display. Unfortunately, the ninja bike was roped off, so there was no hope of us hopping on and taking it for a spin around the convention floor.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation Basic Figure Articulation Guide
The G.I. Joe brand has been a pioneer of boys action figures since the '60s. From the innovation of the Kung-Fu Grip in the '70s, the o-ring torsos of the '80s, to the inset joints of the 25th Anniversary-style bodies, G.I. Joe is synonymous with articulation and poseability. Unfortunately, the consistently uniform articulation we've come to expect from each G.I. Joe figure has--for the first time--been sacrificed in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie line. The changes have left many of us confused, not to mention disappointed. To provide you with a comprehensive look illustrating the differences between each figure, we've created an articulation guide for the first wave of basic figures in the Retaliation line. The guide offers a hi-resolution snapshot of each figure, its accessories (sans spring-loaded accessories) and its individual points of articulation.
Dollar General Storm Shadow Video Review
Our luck hasn't been very good when it comes to Dollar General's line of G.I. Joe figures. We love the card art, think the characters look pretty good aesthetically and would love to get our hands on them, but our efforts to track them down have been fruitless, thus far. Thankfully, there's Pixel Dan to the rescue with a review of the Dollar General Storm Shadow figure. Based on the 1992 Ninja Force version of Storm Shadow, Dan helps you decide if Storm Shadow is worth adding to your collection...if you can find him, that is.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation - What's Out Now?
Amid rumors of short supply and recalls most big-box retail chains have stocked their toy aisles with G.I. Joe: Retaliation toys. In fact, just about everything has been in relatively good supply with only a few variant figures being a tad tricky to track down. To help you on your toy hunt, we've added a G.I. Joe: Retaliation product listing to our photo archive that contains all of the items available at retail. There are nine unique figures with two variants in the first wave (11 total with variants). If you're looking for the variants, Target seems to be getting shipments with the black version of Cobra Commander and the gold masked/caped G.I. Joe Trooper, while Toys R Us is the spot for the blue colored versions of the two figures. Other items included in the first wave of Retaliation toys are two figure multi-packs, two alpha-class vehicles, two bravo-class vehicles, and two delta-class vehicles.
